Trying to figure out what to wear when you have nothing to wear is pure torture.

Ok not really, but on a scale from 1 to 10, it’s a 20.

You feel the stress of needing to leave, but still wanting to look effortlessly chic and fashionable. So I’m gonna help you out with that.

Down below are some simple outfit ideas that are gonna make your decision making process so much simpler.

These outfit formulas are kind of like your cheat sheet for getting ready on busy mornings. They take you from having nothing to wear (even with a wardrobe full of clothes) to having easy to assemble, reliable, cute looks.

So if you’re looking for a good outfit idea before the morning hits and you have to head out the door fast, then here are some good go-to looks.

1. Long or Oversized Cardigan

I love cardigans because they can make so many outfits instantly look more causally put-together.

So for example…

Got some black jeans and a cute colored body suit? Pair a cardigan with it.

Have a nice button-up with a pretty skirt? Style it with cardigan as well.

Side Note: They’re also great since you can get thicker or thinner cardigans, depending on the weather, and wear them for quite a few months out the year. It really is one of the best outfit ideas when you have nothing to wear.

2. Blouse & Jeans (Or Dress Pants)

This is one of my favorite go-to’s for three reasons:

  1. It’s ridiculously easy to pull together, and the perfect throw-on outfit for busy days.
  2. It’s a timeless, polished look.
  3. You instantly look amazing. You’re the person who walks into a coffee shop looking like you have your entire life put together. People think you’re fashionable and fashionably cool.

Now which is best, jeans or dress pants? Both. Both are honestly pretty good.

So grab a good blouse, some well-fitted pants, some cute flats, and you’re ready to leave.

3. A Light or Heavy Coat Depending on the Season

Having the right coat is a total game-changer.

A few years ago, I experimented with different coat styles and found that my outfits instantly leveled-up when I wore them.

Also, there are so many different types you can get depending on the time of year:

  • Trench Coats
  • Camel Coats (like the one I’m wearing above)
  • Overcoats
  • Peacoats

And here are some outfit examples for coats:

  • A cute dress with a trench coat.
  • A light sweater with nicely fitted jeans and a peacoat.
  • Turtleneck with a skirt (or pants) and camel coat.
  • Blouse and jeans with a trench coat.

Coats are one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe, and they’re so great when styling and putting together an outfit. Also, when you’re running late, it’s a simple way you can still elevate your look.

4. A Simple Feminine Dress

Dresses are probably one of the best outfits for when you have nothing to wear.

Because whether it’s a light and pretty spring or summer dress, or a darker warmer dress for the colder months, a dress is just a wonderfully simple outfit.

They’re great for either pulling off a more casual look or looking put together.

Also, it takes you just 10 seconds to put one on and you’re done. No more guesswork or delays.

5. Turtleneck W/ Skirt or Jeans

I am in love with turtlenecks.

They make you look so fashionable and sophisticated.

You kinda become “that girl” when you style an outfit with a turtleneck.

It’s a simple outfit level-up that a lot of people overlook, and so much better than your everyday jeans and t-shirt.

Side Note: Nothing wrong with jeans and a t-shirt, but sometimes it just feels good to dress up a bit more.

Also, it goes with so many items you already have in your closet, so if you don’t have one, then it might be a good idea to invest in one or a few colors.

6. Blazer W/ Dress or Skirt

If you’re trying to figure out what to wear when you have nothing, then this is it.

And while I personally haven’t had the courage to wear a blazer, I always think the girls who do look incredible.

It kinda makes you look like you know what you’re doing, and it’s such an easy way to look fashionable.

Also, there’s kind of a cute element to them since a lot of blazers are oversized, and I think oversized outfit pieces are adorable.

Pro Tip: Roll up the sleeves to make the outfit look even better.

7. Oversized Button-Up With Dark Pants

Oversized button-ups with dark pants are so casual yet so fashionable.

It kinda gives you that look of being effortlessly stylish.

And whether you…

  • Tuck the front of it into you jeans
  • Wear it over some leggings
  • Or pair it with some linen pants

You’re gonna look amazing.
