An Indoor Picnic: How to Have a Picnic in Your Living Room

Indoor picnic ideas for fun and cozy days in. Grab soft blankets, tasty snacks, and entertainment for the perfect living room picnic.

An indoor picnic.

It’s simple. You’re probably bored at home, you’ve watched all of Netflix, every song has been played, you’re done with taking walks, and the scrolling isn’t helping.

So now it’s time for an indoor picnic in your living room.

This is a time to invite some friends over (or do it solo), lay out a blanket on the living room floor, grab some pillows or cushions, and enjoy some good food, yap, and entertainment.

It’s probably one of the most cozy indoor activities you can do, so if you wanna try something new, then here are some indoor picnic ideas that’ll help you get started.

How to Have a Living Room Picnic

If you’re gonna picnic indoors, here are some things you can do to make it just right. And whether it’s last minute or you’re planning it out, just have fun and stay cozy!

1. Blankets

Grab a blanket (or five) and maybe make a fort. Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with turning a picnic into something a bit more fun right?

And if you wanna make it even more cozy, get as many pillows as you can, and maybe even make a mug of hot chocolate for that extra comfort and warmth.

2. Books Can Be Included

Wanna eat and read? It works whether you’re alone or with someone. And if you are having someone over, tell them to bring their books over and then you can both enjoy each others favorite reads.

Quick Pro Tip: If you decide to watch movies instead, then I’ll make a quick suggestion. My husband and I have been on a 1980’s and 90’s Hong Kong Kung Fu comedy kick. Cheesy crazy humor and of course, great fight scenes. You can’t go wrong.

3. Snacks

Get as many snacks as you want. It’s an indoor picnic; there are no rules to this so you can make your own.

Completely unchartered territory.

Grab some dark chocolate and berries, a bag of chips, popcorn, maybe some ice cream, or make a fancy charcuterie board if you’re a Pinteresty kind of person.

Whatever floats your boat when it comes to indoor picnic food ideas!

Side Note: These are may favorite chocolate chip cookies to make. Just use only brown sugar and they’re perfect. 👌

 4. Use the Fancy Glasses

Don’t just use them for special occasions. They’re great for more fancy events, but sometimes there are some not so fancy moments that call for it.

And nice glasses tend to make picnics in general feel a whole lot more fun and kind of posh.

5. Try These Dinner Recipes

Whether you’ve invited someone over or not, I think maybe making a really nice dish to enjoy while reading, watching, talking, or listening to something is a great idea.

Above is the carmelized onion parmesan pasta a made a few months ago. Legit one of my favorite dinner recipes ever, and you can find it over here on this list of dinner ideas for two.

(Or you could just order a pizza 👌)

6. Play Some Mad Libs

My husband and I travel full-time and one of our favorite pastimes is playing Mad Libs.

You don’t even need to buy them at the store, you can just find some awesome ones online (the online Lord of the Rings Mad Libs are our favorites 😂 ).

And that’s it!

It’s a simple way to have fun, there’s food, possible movies and books, good conversations, games, and cozy blankets.

Just assemble and you’re ready!
