How to Encourage a Friend Who Is Down

Encouraging words are a good place to start; it shows your friend that you’re there for them right away. But once you’ve done this, you need to take the next step and ask them what you can do to support them during this difficult time. Listen, don’t rush to find the perfect solution, and once they’ve communicated their needs, figure out how you can take it a step further. Be the friend you’d need if you were going through a hard time.

Also, from personal experience, make sure you’re checking up on them throughout the week. Even if you’re busy, a quick text asking them how they’re doing will only take a few seconds. Then set up times for video calls or to hang out with them throughout the month. They need you right now, so it’s very important that you’re intentional to make time for them.
