How to Get Oil Stains Out of Clothes Naturally: 2 Effective Methods

How to get oil stains out of clothes easily: use dish soap and hot water or baby powder with step-by-step tips to lift grease & keep fabrics looking new.

Clothes that are free of oil stains.

Getting oil and grease stains on your favorite pieces can be more than a bit annoying.

It’s easy to think that if you just throw it into the wash, the garment should just come out clean. But with these kind of stains, they can be pretty stubborn.

Thankfully though, there are plenty of ways to lift the stain and have your clothing looking like new again.

And down below I’ve shared two ways that’ll show you how to get oil stains out of clothes. They’re simple, effective, and will save your garments from getting tossed.

So see which household ingredients you already have and get rid of those stains once and for all.

1. Baby Powder

This one might be the easiest solution when it comes to removing oil & grease stains.

If you have an oil stain (with no color), lay that piece of clothing in a place it won’t be moved. Then put some baby powder on top of the affected area, and let it sit for 1-2 days or longer if need be.

I’ve done this before and the baby powder will help pull it out of the fabric.

Just make sure to put a piece of paper or fabric in between the layers of clothing so that the oil doesn’t soak through to the other side.

2. Dish Soap and Hot Water

If you don’t have baby powder, then this is the next best solution, and a stain removal method I’ve done myself.

Wet the stain with some hot water, then put dish soap on the spots and start rubbing the area with your thumb.

You can also work the soap in there more and create a scrubbing affect by carefully using your nail. Just make sure that if you scrub with your nail, you scrub with the grain of the fabric. Some clothing will have a certain direction the fibers are going, and some won’t, but it’s good to check.

Then after around 30-40 seconds of doing this (or longer if need be), finish it off by rinsing the soap out with hot water and leave it to dry.

And that’s it! Learning how to remove oil stains from clothes doesn’t have to be a complicated process.

Now if the stains do persist, then I think it’s a good idea to rinse and repeat the steps above (no pun intended).

It doesn’t have to be a super long task that takes multiple washings. Just give these two methods a try and you’ll see how easy it is to take care of your clothing.
