If you’re in debt, then I would definitely read Dave Ramsey’s book The Total Money Makeover which you can check out here. He’s helped MILLIONS of people climb their way out of debt and have financial peace and security. So DEFINITELY check him out!

Also! He has another great book called the Legacy Journey which is a great read. Check it out here!

Always negotiate: When a kid asks you for money, you don’t have to say “yes” or “no”. There’s an entire universe of answers that are in between, and the name of that universe is negotiation.

Keep in mind that kids have no idea of what they want or the real worth of money. They can ask for money just because they’re bored or because that’s how they think things should go.

So negotiate with your kids and you’ll teach them patience, wisdom, and long-term planning.

Write down your expenses: Oh boy, this is a tough one but it really works. Adults often lack discipline, especially when it comes with money. So, how do we get better at this?

Simply write down your expenses and calculate how much you’ve spent on what at the end of the month. Categorize expenses as “utilities”, “food”, “entertainment” and so on. Realizing how much you’ve been spending on trifles can be a real eye-opener.

Make a wishlist: Being an adult doesn’t mean your life is all about working and providing for your kids. If there’s something you really want, add it to your wishlist and work towards buying it. Having this kind of long-term goal motivates you to save and pay attention to expenses, but you’ll also end up having an emergency fund.

Invest in your skills: The best way to spend money is to invest it, meaning to put it towards some productive goal that will help you live a better life. In this case, consider investing in getting a better education or buying better tools for your work.

Find pleasure in the small things: It doesn’t take any money to be happy. In fact, we often waste money trying to buy happiness when it’s right there, perhaps in the arms of a loved one. Get back to the roots and do simple things that make you happy and cost nothing.

Stock up on food: Hunger is a huge motivator for impulse shopping, especially when it comes to snacks and junk food. So stock up your freezer with real food, meaning meat, frozen veggies and fruit, and so on.

Make easy and fast meals from home: Cooking is such a fun activity, and everyone should know how to do it. You can find any number of mom blogs online telling you how to make super easy meals!

Buy in bulk: Here’s the best piece of shopping advice you’ll ever get – buy the biggest package of whatever it is you’re buying. Believe it or not, the items we buy aren’t the expensive part, it’s the quantity.

It can be easy to spend money without even thinking about it. And if this is something you do, then definitely adopt the habits of these super frugal parents. They’ll make your life a lot easier!
