8 Ways to Burn a Lot of Calories Without Weights
8“New year, new me! I’m going to lose weight, get fit and—”
How many times have we said that to ourselves, or to our friends and family? If you’re anything like me I would guess, quite often. The problem is though, even with the best of intentions, it’s not always as easy as that. The gym can be expensive and sometimes life is just too darn busy to cram in any clubs or classes.
But don’t worry!
Here, just for you, are 8 great ways to burn calories without weights. You’ll be surprised as to just how easy it is once you’ve got yourself in the right mindset.
On Your Bike!
If you don’t have one yet, it could be well worth it to invest in one. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but riding a bike is one of the best forms of exercise that you can do. Ride to work, ride to college, or just ride for fun. If you mix up your routes between flats and hills it’s even better for you.
Clean the House
This may not be everybody’s favorite activity but this is where we get back to the mindset. If you think of this most mundane of tasks as an exercise routine, then the chances are that you will approach it with more enthusiasm. And this new-found enthusiasm for household chores will start to pay off as you start to see those calories fly off. Also… your home will be clean!
Do a Bit of Gardening
If you are fortunate enough to have a garden of your own then you’re in luck. Mowing the lawn, digging, and all the other types of work that you do in your garden can actually help you burn a few hundred calories.
Go For a Run…
Running is probably one of the most basic of all your calorie killing activities and great for you in so many ways. You don’t have to run fast and you don’t have to run far, but get out there and give it a go. You will notice results very quickly.
…Or a Walk
If you really don’t like running, or if you are unable to because of joint pain or other problems, consider walking instead. This doesn’t mean a brief walk to the local store, but something with a bit more concerted effort. A brisk walk for around 30-60 minutes should be enough.
Another fantastic exercise and one that is low impact and can be approached at your own level. Find out where your local pool is and get involved. If you don’t feel confident or comfortable in the water, then perhaps take a lesson or two. Go for it!
Entertain the Kids
If you have kids then you will know how much energy they have! And if you are a parent then you might be interested to know that playing with your kids (tag, wrestling, and other fun activities), can burn a LOT of calories!
Take the Stairs
If you have stairs at home, then definitely make you use them. They’re a perfect way to shed calories. When you’re out and you face a choice between taking the stairs or an elevator, always take the former. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll start to lose weight.
So, there you go. See how easy it is to burn calories without using weights or even going to the gym? So get out there and beat those calories!
