I have been HORRIBLE with skincare basically my entire life.

Too much time in the sun? Check!

Hardly any moisturizing? Yep!

Not changing my pillowcases frequently? Of course. 😛

But recently that changed dramatically! I don’t quite remember what started it all, but I remember one day looking at my husband and saying something like, “You know, it would be nice to someday just have multiple beauty products that I could use throughout the day that would really take care of my skin.”

Then, he just looked at me and told me to find the nearest beauty shop and JUST DO IT (of course in a loving way 😂).

And after going to the skincare store, The Body Shop (not a promotion), I began to start building onto my skincare routine over the course of a couple of months.

Now in the past, I would always get excited about skincare for a week or so, and then it would drop off. And at first, I didn’t know what it was that really kept me going with my skincare routine, but now… I think I know.

Which brings me to point one. 🙂

1. How to Keep Yourself Going with Skincare

Like usual, there was the initial excitement of taking care of my skin, but this time, I was looking at influencers on TikTok and Instagram that gave great advice when it came to beauty.

And not only did I get to learn more, but I also got inspired by them and it helped keep me in that groove of taking care of my skin.

You see, when you surround yourself with people who are doing the same thing or things that inspire you (in whatever you’re pursuing), you’re gonna keep your mind in that place and want to keep up with it.

And when you don’t, and you’re putting your focus just on your Facebook or Instagram feed or Netflix, it tends to die away.

So make sure to find people online and off that help keep you on your skincare journey. 🙂

Quick Tip: One of my favorite skincare people on TikTok is this guy. He’s hilarious and gives good advice.👌

2. Don’t Rub, Pat

One of the first things I learned in my skincare journey was that patting a product on helped your skin absorb it better. So once you’re finished spreading it over your face, just give it a quick pat. 🙂

3. Toner is SUPER Important!

I can’t stress this enough! It really is important to have this in your skincare routine!

Here’s why!

  • It helps you better absorb the nutrients from other skincare products.
  • It helps balance your PH levels.
  • Makes pores smaller. 🤯
  • Cleanses your skin of anything your face wash missed.
  • Hydrates your skin.
  • Soothes skin.
  • And gives your skin good nutrients.

And I think my favorite parts of toner are the first two benefits. I LOVE the fact that it helps your skin better absorb all the goodness your other products have. Also, balancing out your facial skin’s PH levels is just plain awesome. 🤷‍♀️

Here’s the one I love and use. 🙂

4. It Takes 3 Months to See Results

Alright, so we’ve probably all been there.

We buy a product that we’re super excited about, and then after a week, two weeks, or a month (a day for me sometimes), we stop because we don’t feel like we’re seeing any results.

I mean, in those Buzzfeed articles, they’re always testing things out for 30 days, so it must be legit right? 😅

Well, it turns out that it takes 3 months to see real results from a product. So make sure to write down the day when you started and see how you look in three months’ time.

5. Can You Use Too Many Products?

I’m a bit back and forth on this one.

I’ve heard a skincare professional talk about one of the biggest mistakes people make is using too many products because then you never know what’s really working.

BUT I kind of like using lots of products, and here’s why…

It can’t hurt! If you’ve looked at the ingredients and you see that it has great nutrients, then why not put it on? All it can do is make your skin just a bit healthier, right?

Also, when I was using this method, my husband kept on telling me that my skin looked incredible and super soft. 😂

But in the end, it’s up to you! So tell me what you think in the comments down below. 🙂

6. A Pore Cleansing Stick is Better

Ok, so back in February, I started using pore strips, and it’s kind of addictive because you see instant results!

You peel that strip back after 15 minutes and then you see all that gross gunk taken out of your pores.

But in reality, it’s not always the best for your pores and skin.

So one of the best ways to do it is to use a pore cleansing stick! Over the course of a few weeks, with daily use, you’ll see that your pores are a lot clearer.

Just rub some on your nose (or wherever you want to clean your pores), leave for 15-20 minutes, wash off, and you’re all good to go!

I use this one. 🙂

7. Exfoliation is Important – Here’s Why

Exfoliation helps get rid of dead skin cells, but it also helps speed up the skin renewal process which means it can help minimize wrinkles and make you look young over time.

And for me personally, I just use some sugar and olive oil. No exact measurements, but you do want to make sure that there is a bit more oil than sugar in your mixture. That way the sugar doesn’t completely absorb the olive oil.

But if you want more ideas, then you can check out my post on fun facial scrubs here like this blueberry and lemon one!

8. Test Products on Your Skin Before Applying Fully

Ok… I found this one out the hard way.

When I was living in Taiwan (which is basically skincare heaven), I bought one of the many colorful sheet masks you can get at the store. BUT after a few minutes of wearing it, I started to notice a slight burning feeling on my skin. Well, I’m glad I pulled it off when I did because it had started to make my skin blister in certain areas. Thankfully, no lasting damage was done, but it could have been worse!

So one of the best things you can do is take some of the essence (the liquid used in the face mask), rub a little bit on the skin of your neck and jawline. Then, just watch and see if you feel anything.

And after a short while, if you notice that it’s fine, go ahead and apply. 🙂

9. Do THIS Instead of Popping Pimples

I’ve been a habitual pimple popper for years now (and I’m still not perfect). But I’ve also found that acne patches can do a great job at absorbing the gross stuff in the pimple, reducing its size, and minimizing your problem.

I personally use these ones here and all you have to do is put it on your pimple like it’s a sticker for 4-8 hours (or overnight) and the ingredients will get to work in getting rid of that pimple.

10. Don’t Stress About This!

It doesn’t matter if, something that’s going to be on your skin for a short amount of time (like a cleanser), boasts of great nutrients.

It takes time for your skin to actually absorb that good stuff, which is why you shouldn’t put too much effort into finding just the right cleanser.

I mean, think about it! That’s why you put on sheet masks or a clay mask on for 15-20 minutes. So why would anyone freak out about having just the right cleanser? 🤷‍♀️

11. Don’t Waste the Sheet Mask Essence

Once you’ve finished with your sheet mask, make sure to squeeze out that essence (the liquid full of good stuff for your skin) from the empty package. It’s just a nice and quick way to easily take better care of your skin and not waste. 🙂

Oh, and here are the ones I used in Taiwan – I love them!❤️

12. Always Better to Overapply Sunscreen than Underapply

One of the best ways to take care of your skin is to use sunscreen. The sun ages our skin like crazy, so when in doubt about how much to use, always overapply; your skin will thank you later. 😉

Alright, so I hope these skincare ideas were better than your usual tips like, “apply moisturizer!” Because while we all know that this is important, it’s still good to learn some new things that will help you take even better care of your skin.

So give these ideas a try and let me know how they work for you! I’d love to hear!

PS. Also, as I said above, make sure to let me know about your personal skincare tips (or questions). I’d love to hear from you!
