If there’s one appliance that we all love in the kitchen, it’s the dishwasher.  It’s a great help to clean all the grease and stains left on our plates and silverware.  However, we all hate cleaning up the mess and dirtiness that build up over the weeks or month in our dishwasher.

So that’s why I looked up for super helpful yet quick and easy dishwasher hacks.  This way, you can save more time, effort and prolong the life of your machine. It’s good to know that our dishwasher is clean while it cleans other things too.  So check them out below and let me know what you think.

Wash Cycle with Vinegar

Looking for a non toxic dishwasher cleaner? Look no more because this vinegar will help you wash away grease oil,  sanitize, and help remove the musty odor.

Baking Soda Deodorizer

If you want a quick and simple way to deodorize your dishwasher, sprinkle an amount of baking soda around the bottom of your washer and then run it through a short cycle making sure you use the hottest water setting.

Use a Toothbrush to Remove Gunk

The gunk that forms outside your dishwasher trap can be really gross. But just a toothbrush dipped in baking soda (link), you can now easily scrub all the dirt. Do this more often to avoid clogged drain.

Organize Utensils by Type

Make it a habit of organizing your utensils by type before starting them to wash, alternating them facing up and down for even cleaning.  This also makes unloading the dishwasher quicker!

Use a Mesh Laundry Bag to Prevent Smaller Things from Falling

I always hate when lids, measuring cups and the other small stuff falls through the grates. Thankfully there’s an easy way to prevent this. Just put them in a mesh laundry bag and place it on the top rack. A super quick solution to our problem.

Secure Glassware with Rubber Bands

There’s nothing worse than opening the dishwasher to find a broken glass! To keep fragile cups from jostling around, secure them to the lines using a rubber band or twist tie.

Remove Stains with Lemon Kool-Aid

This may sound crazy but it actually is really effective. Lemonade is rich in citric acid which is good for removing stains, combined with the hot water going through your dishwasher, you can say goodbye to those stains!

Alright, so you’ve already cleaned your dishwasher inside, it’s now time to work on the outside! Clean and polish the exterior using a stainless steel spray or a bit of Bar Keeper’s Friend and wipe it with a microfiber towel or paper towel. Make sure to scrub the knobs, buttons and the handle for a total mess free.

Eliminate Residue

If you don’t clean it out… crud underneath your coarse filter can become a total mess! Clean up the buildup by scraping off the residue and wash away the dirt with baking soda mix with dishwashing liquid.

  1. Best dishwasher life hack I found is to have 2 dishwashers. One acts as a crockery/utensil cupboard supplying the clean items when needed while the other is loading up the filthy. Then when full, put that one on, it becomes the ‘cupboard’ and the now empty one becomes the filth box. Plus ot frees up your crockery and cutlery storage for other things.

  2. I read to pour 2 oz of hydrogen peroxide into the dishwasher. I also use vinegar at same time. Makes for very sparkly finish. I have a huge bottle of food grade peroxide but you can use regular as it gets rinsed off. Of course kills bacteria also. I also use this to clean my refrigerator, love peroxide.
